What's a blog for if you can't use it to just post pointless stuff every now and then? I think Fridays are a good day for this, since it will get the weekend off to a good start. I hereby dub Friday blog posts as Frivolous Fridays.
1. Bugs Bunny was on My First Camera
The first camera of my very own was a Bugs Bunny camera much like this one.
Based on what I've been able to find out, this camera was introduced sometime in the mid 1970's. I've seen anywhere between 1976 and 1978. I think it was '76 because I must have been six or seven years old when I got it—I think as a Christmas present.
The camera used 126 film cartridges and flash cubes. Anyone else remember those?
By the way, there's a whole genre of photography, lomography, that uses toy cameras such as this Bugs Bunny camera.
2. I'm pretty good at making balloon animals.
When my son was around two years old, we spent a couple of days in New Orleans. We came across a street performer who made balloon animals. He was fascinated by them, and wanted any baloon to be made into an animal. So, being a good father, I learned how to make balloon animals.
Fortunately, he grew out of that after a year or so, because balloons terrify me. I'm afraid they're going to pop!
3. I have a law degree.
Yep, I went to law school. I'm going to let you in to a secret. . . taking pictures is a lot more fun than being a lawyer!
4. I have yet to complete a 365 Project.
For those who don't know, a "365 project," is where you set out to take (at least) one photo a day, every day, for one year. Invariably, life gets in the way, and I miss a day or sixteen. I still try my best to do it, but I guess it's like going to the gym every day. You will miss some days.
7. I didn't start regularly drinking coffee until this year.
As a child, it seemed like you weren't really "grown up" until you drank coffee. I resisted it until earlier this year. Yeah, I'd have the occasional mocha, but now my morning isn't complete without having a cup of coffee. One sugar and some butter pecan creamer, please.
BTW, don't buy me Starbucks. I vastly prefer Java Moe's.
6. I was in the Navy.
Unfortunately, I never saw the world. I spent my entire naval "career" in training. Shortly after reporting to an operational unit, I was medically discharged.
7. I'm Directionally Challenged in Hattiesburg.
I've never had a problem finding my way around anywhere, except in Hattiesburg. That's probably because my wife, who has lived here her entire life, usually drives. She knows all the shortcuts, so it just makes sense for her to chauffeur me around when we are going to the same place.
After living in Hattiesburg as long as I have, though, I do know my way around, but I just may not know the quickest way to get from one place to another.
8. Socks Are For Suckers.
I hate socks. Shoes are ok, but I don't like socks, at least not white athletic socks. It's a texture thing. To me, it's the tactile equivalent of scratching fingernails on a chalkboard. (That sound, by the way, doesn't bother me).
Dress/casual socks are another thing altogether. They don't bother me. In fact, I like novelty socks when I'm wearing business casual or dress clothes.
9. Breakfast Foods Are Better at Night.
I don't like eating breakfast at breakfast time. I would much rather have pizza or a burger early in the morning. When I do crave breakfast food, I like eating "night breakfast"—— breakfast at dinnertime.
10. I'm a Clutz.
If I'm photographing you, there's a pretty good chance you will see me bump into something, especially if I have the camera up to my eye. I tend to forget there's a world other than what I can see in the viewfinder, and I have some bruises and scratches to prove it.
