I'm counting down my favorite photos from 2017. Here are links to the other photos in my Top Ten:

10            9            8            7

This photo is the most recent in my top ten. To me, it represents growth, although that is not something someone other than myself would take away from the photo.

Why does this photo represent growth? Well, it actually represents two types of growth for me: technical and personal.

Technically, I processed this photo different than I normally do. First, this was a level of retouching that I don't normally do. Don't get me wrong, the model was beautiful. Many people think retouching means to cover up flaws, but it's actually enhancing what is already there. Like a good haircut, good retouching is subtle, and, when done well, no one can tell you've had it done.

Looking at this image compared to many of the others you'll see from me, the color is much more subdued. Normally, I like colors that are brighter and bolder than reality. I call it "punch-you-in-the-mouth color." However, given the setting (this was taken in an alley in downtown Hattiesburg) I thought I needed to unsaturate the colors. Even with the unsaturation, you can still get a taste of punch-you-in-the-mouth color in the vibrance of the grass and weeds growing around the base of the wall.

Personally, this photo represents growth because it was the first time I purposely went out to meet other local photographers. Like many photographers, I am an introvert. Meeting new people is not something that comes easily to me. But I really enjoyed this photo shoot and have made some friends from it.
