I think a very good argument could be made that this photo is the most beautiful of my Top Ten. This was taken at the Intercoastal Waterway in Orange Beach, Alabama over the summer.
One of the skills I’ve worked on in 2017 was exposure blending. That’s when you take several photos, each exposed for different parts of the scene, and blend them together to make one image. The idea is usually to expand the dynamic range of your camera. In other words, you try to get more dark tones and more bright tones properly exposed than you normally can do in one photograph.
Incidentally, if you’re ever on vacation and you see a postcard and wonder how everything came out looking so bright and colorful, this is usually the technique they use to do it.
